Posted by: Patrick Schmiedt on April 25, 2008 at 1:54PM EST

The Wyoming Track and Field Classic, originally scheduled for today in Casper, has been postponed to Monday. The meet will start at 4 p.m.

Saturday's Casper Invitational has been canceled.

Also, today's Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis has been moved to Monday. It'll start at 10 a.m.

Update, 4:12 p.m.: Worland has canceled its boys soccer games this weekend against Newcastle and Torrington due to weather and field conditions.

If you know of any more postponements or cancellations, give me a shout.

I hope these kids can at least get a couple races in before regionals!

The weather for the Track Classic was absolutely perfect!! I noticed that the flag was not moving. Don't know if I have ever seen that in Casper.

Congratulations to Cody Emrick. What a phenominal run in the 800!!! You made us all proud.

I was very disappointed that Lingle wasn't there. Don't know what happened, maybe the change in dates. I was really looking forward to seeing their kids participate.

As always the talent and competition were amazing. Loved it!!!

What a great Classic! The 800 between Emrick and Slight was a great race to watch. Congratulations to both runners and everyone else that ran

The Classic was wonderful. Enjoyed watching records fall. Congratulations to all the kids who competed, whether they brought home a medal or not it was awesome to see that much talent at one meet. And what a great finish to the boys 800m!!!!

Four meet records and great competition in every event. What more could you ask for in a track meet prior to the state meet?

Wow, looks like the Emrick kid is having a great week!! Wins the 800 & makes the all-star hoops roster! Nice! Kevin-I saw you organized the "WTC" (Meet of Champions for us "old-schoolers!")Busy dude! Way to go! Do you find that there is quite a bit better participation when it takes place during the season as opoposed to after the State meet? Seems like it. Also, to anyone out there; I heard from a friend that there is a sophomore girl from Rapid City S.D. that just broke their state record in the 400, but I can't find a web site with that info-anyone know of one that will tell me that info? Thanks!!

Chris,

The participation is much better for the Track & Field Classic during the latter part of the season. It seems to be motivating factor for a lot of athletes early in the season to try to qualify for an invitation to the meet. The state does such a great job at the state meet, any meet afterwards seems to lose some appeal. Also, with the Shrine Bowl, All-Star basketball, graduations, and even old fashioned summer jobs seemed to deplete the field after the state meet.

The young lady of which you speak is Jasmine King from Rapid City Central. At Sturgis on Tuesday she ran a 55.2 hand held time. She is a very talented young lady in many areas. In the meet the Emily Moore jumped 19+ feet, she jumped 18+ feet. She is certainly a bonus to watch perform.

Chris, I was at the Sturgis meet on Tuesday and saw her run the 400. Very impressive. Check out the Rapid City journal website. They had some pretty good coverage on her.

Thanks guys! Hey, watch out for the Dogies Baldwin & Farella next weekend @ regionals & then at state in the jumps; looks like they are peaking at the right time!! (course, it would be nice to have had some more cooperative weather this year, maybe we should extend the season a few weeks!!) Go Dogies!!!!!!!
