Sports Goulash Three-Bagger

This week's trio is focused -- and with good reason. For everything but 3A soccer, this is the last weekend before regionals. So here it is:

Soccer: Casper Cup. It's a two-fer in the Trio this week. KW vs. NC. In Casper, it doesn't matter if it's football, soccer, meat judging or tic-tac-toe, this rivalry helps bring out the best in all involved. The NC boys need a win here to wrap up an automatic bid to state, while the winner of the girls' game wins the 4A West Conference.

Boys soccer: Cheyenne East at Laramie, Saturday. Speaking of fun atop conferences, how about that 4A East boys race? Laramie has 20 points, East has 19 and Central has 18. Laramie and Central were scheduled to play on Thursday (haven't heard a final as of late Thursday night), but this game Saturday could be for more than just a conference title -- an automatic berth at state could be on the line, too.

Track: Shane Brock Invitational, Lander, Saturday. There are like 875 teams coming to this (OK, not really, but there are a bunch). It's one of the biggest meets in the state on the last week of the regular season, and it's important as athletes gear up for regionals and state.

There's the trio. Make it the quad or the quint or the whatever by adding your most anticipated event with a comment below.

I think most people are looking for just one more meet with decent weather to make their minds up as to Regional entries. I guess that is the price that Lander plays for being in the "sun belt" (at least as far as this weekend is concerned. Wow, what a first couple of days in May! I'm afraid there will be no spring, just go from winter to summer, probably sometime in June.

It is going to be very difficult for us at regionals if we don't get to a track meet tomorrow. We have very few kids pre-qualified. We need that competition!! I haven't paid much attention to what is going on elsewhere, but we are stuck in the house with no travel. We are in the midst of a full blown bllizzard. Love that moisture, but sure wish it was rain!!! At least we still have power.

T&F season is shaping up very much like 30 years ago. 1st weekend in May, 24" of snow in Cheyenne and our conference meet was cancelled. 2nd weekend in May, cold & windy in Medicine Bow. HJ takes place in the gym, and it was the 1st time I 3-stepped an entire set of 110m HH (thanks to the wind). I'm not sure how the PV was completed since the runway was perpendicular to the wind. 3rd weekend state meet was postponed to the 4th weekend due to snow in Lander (& Jackson). Before '80 state T&F was held in 2 locations AA & C at one location and A & B at another.

The weather report we are hearing says in the 60's all next week. And we all know that what the weather man says is gospel.
