Shrine Bowl musings
Posted by: Patrick Schmiedt on June 11, 2008 at 5:24PM EST

In case you haven't heard, the Shrine Bowl is on Saturday here in Casper. My colleague Austin Ward and I are all over it this week -- we'll be bringing you stories from each camp each day all the way up to the big game.

The early dope has this one as South speed vs. North size. The North is by far the bigger team, with 15 players weighing at least 210 pounds. The South only has five at 210 or more, but will try to make up for that with its speed and quickness (even though the North team has its fare share of speed as well).

As we saw last year, though, this game is usually defined by one big playmaker. Last year, that playmaker was Douglas' Blake Richendifer, who was the offensive MVP and scored all three touchdowns in the South's 20-17 victory.

So... when you look at this year's rosters, who do you think are the biggest playmakers? Who on these lists has the chance to put up an MVP-type performance on Saturday?

(By the way, after watching the North practice, I think the big playmaker on offense could be Jackson's Alex Bush. They've got him playing at wideout and, as unassuming as he might look, he's quick and aggressive but has soft hands. After I go to the South practice today, I'll give you my thoughts on that squad, as well.)

Here are the rosters for Saturday's game. Post your comments below.

(By the way, in the hype of the game, let's not forget what these young men are playing for. Click here.)

Patrick; Is there any live feed of the game? Internet, TV anything.

Ted -- I don't know of any. If I do hear of anything, I'll post it here.

Also, I just got back from the South's afternoon practice, and my game-breaker could be DB Chris Jenkins. The Cheyenne Central product looked fantastic in the 7-on-7 drills, picking off the first pass thrown during the drill and knocking down a couple others.

I am going to go with Ray Moore. I have watched him make things happen for many years. If he can't find the open receiver, he can scramble and make the play. I do look for him to have a huge passing game and to score at least one touchdown on his own.

I am going for the North since my brother is playing, but I think this is a great matchup and could go either way!! This should be an exciting game! I am very excited to watch it!!

I'm on record with the North tomorrow night, but if I'm wrong it'll be Drew Rollin's fault.
The Rock Springs star and current South running back is explosively athletic, and if coach Shawn Rogers can get his ground attack rolling, look out.

Whoops -- the previous comment (and this one) is from Austin Ward, live from Patrick's computer at CS-T central.
The man in charge of this blog (wisely) hasn't publicly backed a winner.

North all the way. As a former North player I have to go with my boys. Matt Sebade is a stud and I am hoping he will walk on at Wyoming and be better than Wade Betshart. He didn't get a lot of exposure playing on a team that is 0-16 the past two years. Go North!!!

Great Shrine Bowl. It could have gone either way. The North Defense held when they had to. I know you didn't vote for him Patrick but everyone I spoke to thought Rob deserved the offensive MVP. He really took control of the team as if they had played together for a long time. The Rollin kid was good but a bit "cocky" it appeared. He did play well though, as did all the guys.
