Frankly i think the whole situation with the casper schools is crap. First off the roads opened early enough in the day that either team could have made it to Evanston and when they weren't willing to do that, Evanston made a proposal to come and play both games on Saturday, which they again declined for whatever reason. Somehow its ok for Evanston and Star Valley to travel to casper and get stuck an extra night but when its time for them to travel here, even when they could have, they don't because of a delay in the morning. And with one Green River / Rock Springs game to make up already there aren't many options for make up dates. I'm sure the Casper schools will be glad to let Evanston and Star Valley come back and will graciously host them in road games again. Evanston has now played 16/18 on the road and it looks like they will lose 2 of the 5 home games they had. I'm sorry to complain and wouldn't if there was no safe way to get here but this isn't right. The roads are now open and there were very feasible ways to get in the games this weekend.

What if it had been the Cheyenne or Laramie schools?
The Casper travel policy is if travel is not advised then there will be no travel period.
Take care of your own house first.
It's not just the kids, it's the traveling parents too. Please remember the Star Valley parents who were killed returning from a wrestling match in Riverton.
If you won't hold the weather responsible, then the next best target is the ridiculous alignments which sent the Casper schools to the west. We'll see how many other games were cancelled or postponed tomorrow.
We, frankly would rather have kept our old conference. I don't think this alignment will last.
Again, it would have been the same thing with Cheyenne or Laramie schools. It's just been a crappy winter for travel and some districts are more cautious than others.
I don't think travel would have been any better to Star Valley through Jackson.

it does seem a bit odd that Casper schools can never seem to travel away from Casper. I agree completely that this new allignment is not as good as it was and I am totally against it as well. But when other schools can make the drive then Casper needs to be able to as well.

The school district has only our childrens best intersets at heart I personally would not let my child travel in such conditions! It is horrible that people would risk thier childs safety for a GAME. I argree with the school postponing the games at least our children are alive and well!

When I checked the web cams yesterday, there was a line of trucks waiting for the roads to open. In the morning I-80 was closed from Laramie west to the Utah border. Roads were either closed or there were black ice alerts in the Jackson and Afton areas with avalanche warnings in some areas. These were all posted on the Dept. of Highway web site.
It appears all the postponements involved schools west of Laramie to the Utah border along I-80. All the games involving teams in other areas of the state managed to be played. It was the I-80 venues that had the worst weather problems.
To clarify the Billings situation. I-25 was closed from Casper to Midwest. The Billings girls could get within an hour of Casper before closure and when the road opened in the afternoon, they came to Casper. The boys couldn't get out of Casper so when the roads were opened in the afternoon, the Casper boys were six hours from Billings not one hour. It made a difference where the road was closed.
Last week the GR and RS girls came over South Pass. The Natrona County schools never, if ever, use South Pass. It was on that same highway that a Star Valley couple was unfortunately killed when a truck skidded and hit them on Saturday. It could have been a bus.
I find NCSD policy of "closure or no travel advised" an intelligent one.
If you wanted your kids on I-80 yesterday, that's your wish. I didn't want mine going to Star Valley though Jackson or Evanston on I-80.

Even in the old conferences there would have been travel problems. The whole 4A South still traveled long distances. Casper schools just are not used to traveling I-80 in the winter.

Supposedly, Natrona is playing Evanston on tuesday.

to uinta count: as a mom who is traveling almost every weekend with three children; i do not feel that the decision to not send our children out in treacherous conditions is crap at all. Before you judge, maybe you should make the road trip first. My childrens safety comes before any arrogant egos from another town. Their lives are far more important than your arrogant opinion. I also would like to mention that when uinta county comes to play in Casper, they have the luxury of playing two schools in one place and not having to travel even longer. Oh how we complain, but forget about some of the conveniences that we have. Oh yes, and by the way, Natrona is playing Green River on Monday, and traveling to Evanston (weather permitting of course) on Tuesday. Maybe you could find some other reason to complain now.

Instead of complaining Casper won't travel. How about a fix to the situation. Why doesn't Wyoming start building a high speed rail system next to I-80 and I-25. Actually use some of the billions to better it for everyone. High speed elevated trains would not be as affected by road conditions and would be able to safely transport people to multiple locations. We may have to rent each others buses from the train terminals but at least we would not be endangering everyone by trying to compete with the semi tractors in bad weather.
