Five on the rise
Posted by: Patrick Schmiedt on October 8, 2008 at 12:19AM EST

This week's list, in no particular order:

1. Gillette boys tennis: The Camels won their third straight tennis title, playing off the strength of a sweep of all three doubles championships to claim another trophy.

2. Jackson girls tennis: While we're at it, the Jackson girls won the key matches they needed to win and secured their first state girls tennis championship in a decade.

3. Meeteetse football: Check out the Longhorns -- they got a huge conference victory last week and improved to 2-2 in conference play. Three more huge games await...

4. Gillette cross country: One more quick nod to the Camels and, specifically, Dominick Robinson. The senior set a new course record at the Centerra Invitational in Loveland, breaking the 16-minute mark to help the Camels finish fourth in a huge field.

5. Burlington football: The Huskies were creeping up on everyone in 1A -- and then they quit with the creeping and just marched right on in. Beating defending 2A champion Riverside 19-13 last week helped put the Huskies among 1A's short list of favorites with a big home game against Cokeville looming on Friday.

There's my five. Add to the list if you'd like by commenting below.

I think that Pinedale football should be up there! 3 game winning streak that makes them 3-0 in conference? when was the last time they did that!?!?!

Well, Jackson's 3A swim team beat all the 4A schools they swam against this weekend in Sheridan, and the Girls 3A Tennis team beat Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Gillette to win the State Title in Tennis as well. Why is it that Jackson can't move up???? And remember, I am from Jackson.

Wyo Football...must have been a great game against mountain view, my question is mountain view really that bad that they haven't won a game...what a surprise.

Mt View I think will win it's last three games and make the playoffs. I thought Jackson couldn't compete at the 4A level and that's why they didn't want the recent WHSAA proposal to pass.

Pinedale will loose this weekend the 3A west is weak and Kemmerer is a class act. A real tough team sitting their starters the second half the last three games.

Jackson Coach,

Please check last week's Casper Star Tribune story for comments from your own AD about why Jackson needs to stay in 3A.

Robinson also broke the 16 min barrier on a course that was 3.2 miles instead of the 3.1 that is the usual 5k

GAME OF THE WEEK Cokeville at Burlington should be a dandy, I say a field goal or less will decide this one, and how much will it mean for home field advantage. whoo hoo, come see the best D versus the best O.
