Odds and ends of Wyoming high school sports.
All-star hoopage

Friday begins the 33rd annual Wyoming-Montana all-star basketball series. As usual, the Wyoming teams have home-court advantage for the first game -- Friday's games are in Sheridan -- while the Montanans have it for Saturday up in Billings.

Don't know much about the Montanans. What do y'all know about the Treasure State's guys and gals? Anything?

Wyoming's rosters shape up well -- or at least they did with similar personnel for the Wyoming-South Dakota series. The Wyo guys have some sharp-shooting guards, evident by the 38 3-pointers they made in two games against South Dakota, while the Wyo girls should get a little boost from having a full roster and the state's only senior D-I signee (Lovell's Kristen Scheffler) in the lineup.

Here are the rosters:

That 3 point shooting fest that those boys put on was awesome to watch. They play a fast paced game and seemed to mesh well together. I'm looking forward to this weekend. GO WYO!!!

It was fun to watch. Coach Davidson has said that Montana plays a more control type game so the threes may not be as plentyful. It should be fun though. I think the Allen kid will be at these games. Hes the only true "5" that Wyoming will have. All the Wyoming guys are so talented they will do what they have to do. Should be a couple of great games. Also the girls should be a full force. Scheffler from Lovel and Quist from Sheridan should be nice additions. Good luck to Wyo!

I understand that the Allen kid won't be playing. I heard he was in a car accident right before the Wyo-SD games and just recently got out of the hospital. I was hoping to see a little preview of CWC ball with him, Peahrora & Emrick. It sounds like he is doing fine. Glad to hear that.

Yes, Bulldog Fan, you're right. I talked with both Wyoming coaches yesterday, and both Rock Springs players (Allen for the boys and Mandy Willmore for the girls) will miss this week's games. Good luck to Brandon on a speedy recovery.

Check Friday's Star-Tribune for a full game preview.

The WYO-SD games were fun to watch. I would like to watch these boys & girls play together after about a two week period. Also, not to take the wind out of the WYO sails, but it is my understanding that SD had another allstar team playing Iowa at the same time. That might explain the absense of the SD Big schools (Sioux Falls, Watertown, Rapid City). Not sure it would have madeup the 30+point difference, but would have made it more of a contest.

HS sports fan you are right, the SD-WY game doesn't feature the best kids from SD or even WY for that matter. Some WY kids only play the MT game because I think it has more meaning than the SD game. When ever WY is short they just fill with Gillette kids for SD. SD never really sends the big school kids to WY, we get all the Class A and B kids. The MT game is the oldest and the true all-star basketball game for the WY kids. MT always sends their best for this game also.

I know that Krogman played in the SD/Iowa game. I don't know if it was true or not, but we were told that he was only allowed to play in 2 all-star games. Something to do with signing his letter of intent. I've never heard of that being an issue before.

Now it is on to the North-South Allstar games. Patrick will you post the rosters. And who are the coaches?

I believe there is some rule with signing with D-1 schools and the amount of All-Star games a player can play in. Not sure though.

I love Wyoming sports, but we have to be honest here, it's a numbers game and the stats support it. Montana has the clear edge in games, by far and SD actually creates two all-star teams. The one that plays WY is from the smaller B and A schools, most of the AA stud gal and girls are playing in other all-star games like the NODAK game because most these kids can only play in so many all star games and still retain their scholarship status. As great as WY basketball is, its hard to compete with states whose lowest classification has triple the schools we do in the whole state and when the largets classification schools are double the size of cambell county.....
